  • Caraway is a rich, reddish brown, semi-transparent stain applied to maple, with a dark glaze and a medium sheen. Several techniques are employed to enhance the finish’ s richness and antiqued appearance. These include hand padding, hand wiping, cow tailing, and penciling, which amplifies the hang-up created by dry brushing. Hand wiping with a dark glaze brings attention to the physical distressing and carvings. The physical distressing includes softened corners and edges, light peck marks, awl marks, and rasping.
