The silky-smooth, rainbow-like finish on this large, eye-catching box comes from the sea. Mother-of-pearl (the iridescent inner layer found in the shells of oysters and other sea life) is harvested in Vietnam, where artisans apply individual pieces to the wood surface by hand. It’s a kind of alchemy really: A plain wood box is transformed into a treasure chest—one you’ll treasure forever.
